UNDERSTANDING THE CREATION OF MAGICAL SYMBOLS OR THE RADIATION OF SHAPE ENERGY
To understand how magical symbols work, one must understand the principle of shape energy radiation.
Once again in this article, we will confront an issue that is seemingly abstract, yet very tangible and practical. Shape energy forms the foundation for a considerable portion of magical/spiritual practices and finds its basis nowhere else but in psychology and the functioning of the human psyche.
WHAT IS SHAPE ENERGY RADIATION AND HOW IS IT MEASURED
I will begin from the very end, from things seemingly most incomprehensible and difficult to explain in a rational way, in order to then explain the principle of their operation.
Shape energy can be measured and sensed.
The measurement of shape energy is addressed by a field called Radiesthesia, among others. Radiesthetists are able, using their instruments, to determine precisely on a scale the strength of shape energy radiation, its type, etc. For this purpose, radiesthesia uses tools such as pendulums or dowsing rods (not to be confused with magic wands seen in films—that’s something completely different).
Sensitive people are also able to sense and describe the properties of shape energy when in their vicinity or through the mere act of concentrating on the indicated object.
So much for facts that are shocking to some. Shape energy can be measured and its properties can be described in detail, which can be beneficial to humans in various ways, or the opposite.
But where does this action of shape energy come from? This question seems to be asked by almost no one, and even most people involved in its perception and description, including radiesthetists, seem to avoid this uncomfortable question, dismissing it with “it works and that’s it,” “that’s how it is,” and similar statements.
Meanwhile, shape energy can be explained at the level of psychology, which incidentally also influences our entire body—hence the effect can be clearly felt and translate into real physical value.
I will describe here only one possible perspective on explaining the action of shape energy—one that I have chosen because of its simplicity and the ability to explain to even the most skeptical person with a materialistic attitude the principles and justification for its action.
SHAPE ENERGY PSYCHOLOGICALLY
From the dawn of time, humans have lived in an environment filled with shapes. Our material reality at the most (literally) tangible level is a reality of shape.
We recognize shape through touch and sight, and sometimes also through hearing (for example, in a space that gives an echo effect, or when walking on a particular surface and hearing its crunching, we know that it consists of sharp small stones, etc.). Shape is one of the fundamental pieces of information important to us from birth. By shape, we recognize things that are good for us as well as those that are dangerous and that we must be careful of because they pose a potential threat to us.
We see an apple and by its appearance we know it’s an apple and we can eat it. We see a knife and we immediately know it’s a sharp tool that we must be careful when using. When we see a high mountain, by its shape we know that from its peak we will have a wonderful view, but getting there will be demanding.
From the beginning, humans described their reality by learning the meaning of shapes, and over time began to create symbols themselves that were meant to communicate conveyed ideas through shape. This is how pictorial writing was created, which through cave paintings in caves many thousands of years ago was meant to convey complex thoughts that had meaning for the people there.
Over time, we learned to contain and read a great deal of information and ideas in symbols.
What we are not fully aware of, however, is the fact that subconsciously, humanity has learned to associate even more with certain shapes representing for us at a subconscious level certain basic ideas carried over from the primordial period, most core and fundamental to the human psyche.
PRIMORDIAL SHAPE ENERGY
Objects – including magical symbols – can be described as consisting of two types of shape energy: primordial and assigned. I will begin by describing primordial energy, which de facto defines our entire present reality at its foundations.
Primordial shape energy is that which we can identify with the maximum simplification of the selection of shapes and meanings. So let us reduce everything to the absolute minimum of symbolism that surrounds us: the feminine symbol and the masculine symbol.
As is widely known, our reality is based on dualism, meaning everything has its two aspects—masculine and feminine—light and darkness, plus and minus, etc. In computer science, programming language is based on binary code, meaning one consisting of only 2 symbols precisely – 1 and 0. From these two symbols, the often very complex reality of virtual worlds, etc., can and does arise. By the way, note an interesting coincidence of symbolism that I will describe in a moment. “1” resembles a vertical line, and “0” a circle. This will be important in a moment.
The same is true of the dualism of masculine and feminine Energy, which we will express here in shape energy.
Most of you already guess, because we have this encoded somewhere within us. What symbolizes feminine energy? A circle, of course. And what symbolizes masculine energy? What can the phallic symbol representing the masculine principle be reduced to when drawing it in maximum simplification? To a single vertical line, a single stroke.
So we have a circle and a straight line. If you think about it, our reality at its foundations is built from such shapes because everything around us can be reduced to straight lines and curves resulting from the straight line and the circle.
Masculine energy and feminine energy are therefore contained in shapes. More rounded things have feminine energy, while what has many sharp angles, is pointed, etc., is an emanation of masculine energy.
What does feminine energy symbolize for us? Primordial safety associated with being in the mother’s womb, birth, love, etc.
Hence the circle in magic is a symbol of safety. A circle is the designation of individual space. Being in a circle, we find ourselves symbolically in the primordial mother’s womb if we reduce it to the absolute basics of symbolism.
Of course, the symbol of the circle has over time expanded to include many meanings associated with the primordial meaning. As a result, the circle has become virtually a sacred symbol, because the life-giving, protective feminine energy was primitively recognized as sacred, because everything derives from it.
Thanks to this primordial meaning, which gradually grew more and more to the rank of “sacredness” – today the circle constitutes a universal magical symbol, meaning one that has a strong primordial meaning for our psyche, including the subconscious, which is key because it also draws from the collective experience and power of all humanity.
Masculine energy – phallic symbol – straight line. What is this symbol at its foundation? Action, deed, movement. To draw a line, we must make a movement from point A to B. It is the traveled path, the passage of time, and as a result, change, etc.
The line is, as I said, a phallic symbol at the most basic level. Humanity also quickly associated it with weapons – sword, spear, etc. Masculine energy is therefore the energy of action, violent energy, while feminine is toning energy, stabilizing energy, etc. Masculinity in symbolism is so visible and expressed everywhere throughout human history that there is not even a need to write about it more broadly. Go out in larger cities and see the tall skyscrapers reaching high… yes – masculine energy dominates current reality.
So let us summarize: Primordial shape energy is that which results from the most basic primordial associations. Circle = feminine energy, safety, designated personal space. Straight line = Performing an action, movement, deed, changing reality.
As a result, symbols constructed from the elements described above, before we as humanity give them additional meanings – still possess all the time these basic described properties of primordial shape energy. When you look around and notice the combination of roundness and straight lines/sharp edges – you will notice the symbolic binary code of material reality – feminine and masculine energies expressed in shape.
ASSIGNED SHAPE ENERGY
The next step for humanity was the gradual assigning of meaning to complex shapes that we began to create from basic shapes.
This is also how various symbols expressing specific ideas emerged over time.
The catch is that the more complex the symbol, the more meanings it can contain.
Let us start with a simple example: Let us use two straight lines described above as symbols of masculine energy, meaning the energy of action, the energy of deed. Let us cross two lines. We have a cross sign or an X sign depending only on the angle at which we do it – however, this is of little importance here. What is important, however, is that the X symbol or cross is a very primordial symbol expressing the intersection of two ideas, two actions – it indicates a point of interaction.
X on a map indicates treasure, as we associate from childhood and adventure films, right? Two intersecting lines are like two roads that cross. Symbolically, someone travels along each of them. At the intersection of the lines is a meeting point – something important, therefore.
Two intersecting lines – the symbol they create – indicates “something important,” the intersection of two previously separate ideas, etc. And this is just the simplest symbol we created from only two lines. Yet how many meanings has this intersection already received throughout history? How much attention has humanity devoted to just this one symbol and considering what it can express in philosophical and thereby ideological meaning for us?
Over time, various symbols emerged, as we said, and humanity began to assign meanings to them. If we stopped there, however – everything would be simple – symbol = specific meaning and that’s it. But that is not the case. Over time, meanings are sometimes gradually interpreted differently and transformed into others. Under the influence of various motivations, completely different meanings are also often attributed to old symbols. For example, while fighting against some idea, one stigmatizes the meaning of its symbol as supposedly a symbol of something evil – although in reality, the intention of the creators of that symbol was completely different. There are numerous examples throughout the history of our species.
SHAPE ENERGY AND THE COLLECTIVE PSYCHE OF HUMANITY
However, what is important for us is that both the primordial and assigned meaning – over time becomes part of the collective, common information field recorded in the subconscious mind of humanity. Some call it the collective unconscious, others the mystical Akashic Records, still others the astral world, or species memory. Regardless of how we explain this phenomenon – it is a perceptible fact that at some level, the human being is capable of capturing both the primordial and assigned meaning of shape energy at a subconscious level – and this has a very large impact on our being.
It seems to us that the symbols that surround us have no meaning. However, they have a huge impact on us. Symbols express ideas, and these become part of us, even at a subconscious level, which we then unconsciously realize, act in some reference to it, and pass on to the next generations.
What we are often not aware of, and what radiesthesia can measure or what more sensitive people can directly sense – is the fact that symbols virtually emanate – emanate as if by radiation – the energy of the ideas they express.
Whether this will have greater or lesser meaning for us depends on ourselves—either we open ourselves to given ideas or we block them. Either we tune into given ideas because we want them to exist in our lives, such as: abundance, love, magic, etc., or conversely, we adopt a defensive attitude. So in the presence of a symbol, the question arises of what attitude we have toward it – whether we recognize it as a symbol supporting our intentions and ideas – or it is indifferent to us or even irritates us, representing ideas contrary to our value system. For example, a person with extreme religious views will be irritated by the symbol of another religion and not supported by it, right? On the same principle, depending on our value system and views and attitude toward various ideas – we can choose and surround ourselves with symbols that will support our intentions, because they will be consistent with our energy and attitude. Of course, a key role is played here by being aware and consciously choosing specific values, because as long as we live immersed in sleep, not paying attention to the symbols surrounding us, they influence us at a level beyond our control. Only conscious reference to them allows us to take control and take the reins into our own hands, consciously choosing the values that are truly important to us, and then we can begin to consciously and effectively support ourselves with symbols chosen for ourselves, which thanks to our awareness of their meaning have for us greater and more tangible Power – subject to our will.
SUMMARY OF SHAPE ENERGY AND INTERPRETATION OF SYMBOL MEANING
Finally, I want to clarify certain issues in a simple way. Two things are key: First and foremost, what matters most is what a given symbol is for us. How we choose to perceive it. For example, one person seeing a pentagram will choose to recognize it as a protective symbol, and another as a symbol of evil magic. We cannot stop the second person from doing this – if they insist, they will do so, and for them it will be an unfavorable symbol, despite its original protective meaning. Because first and foremost, the most important filter of perception is our own choice of what a given symbol is for us.
The second issue that exists right alongside this is the issue of collective current beliefs about a given symbol.
Okay, our own attitude toward a given symbol may be positive, but if the collective beliefs of humanity about this symbol are strongly negative – then it will not work too beneficially for us despite everything. For example, no matter what attitude we might have toward the swastika symbol, which in simplified terms was initially a symbol bringing luck, a solar symbol, etc. – the collective emotions and beliefs around it under the influence of its use by you-know-who – have distorted this symbol and unfortunately seriously “contaminated” its energy. Therefore, unfortunately, nothing will help the fact that it was once a positive symbol and someone chooses to treat it that way—too strong collective beliefs about it have appeared, which affects the properties of its energy.
Yes, certain magical practices can enable disconnection from the influence of collective beliefs on a given symbol and tune into its original meaning during magical practices, but only to a certain limited extent. If we publicly flaunt this symbol and people have negative associations with it, then no magic will help us neutralize these effects, and thus the effect of wearing it will be opposite to the intended. Religious people are often not aware of this fact, publicly flaunting their religious symbols, which they themselves consider positive and beneficial – they often evoke negative emotions, whose energy reaches them and has an impact on them.
Fortunately, in cases less extreme than large religious systems or symbols of certain ideologies—various beliefs about the same symbol, if not on such a scale, do not affect the original properties too much. The so-called white pentagram is still an effective protective symbol used in magic regardless of the fact that a few religious fanatics have gotten some other ideas about it into their heads.
To summarize – when creating and choosing symbols, we should take into account what a given shape is associated with for the average person. This matters, although depending on the situation, with varying intensity of power depending on the strength of collective beliefs and emotions associated with these beliefs. Besides, there is a difference whether we work with a given symbol in domestic privacy or appear publicly.
In summary: Shape energy is measurable and perceptible. It has a huge impact on our lives. Consciously relating to symbols and choosing to surround ourselves with symbols beneficial to us means that we take the reins and regain control over our lives by consciously choosing the qualities we desire. Skillfully navigating the layers of symbol meanings means that we are able to accurately choose the most beneficial symbolism for us, whose energy will effectively support us on a daily basis.
