An advanced extraterrestrial civilization is not omniscient. Every being – regardless of its level of consciousness or technological advancement – has gaps in its knowledge. Those gaps, shaped by desires, fears, and internal narratives, are filled with beliefs. With faith. And this applies equally to those from whom we receive transmissions.

Understanding this mechanism is one of the most important tools available to anyone who researches or receives information from extraterrestrial and interdimensional civilizations.

What Is Belief and Why Does It Appear Everywhere?

Belief – understood not religiously, but epistemically – is a conviction about the state of things that has not been empirically verified.

It is not an error or a weakness. It is the natural mechanism of any mind that wants to understand reality without having full access to it.

Wherever a being has gaps in its knowledge and simultaneously has desires, fears, or preferences about how those gaps are filled – belief appears. Such a conviction becomes so deeply rooted that it is treated as self-evident rather than as a hypothesis.

Throughout history, human beings have repeatedly lived within collective belief systems that each generation accepted as descriptions of reality. History is full of examples of entire groups, cultures, and civilizations holding absolute conviction in the correctness of their beliefs – beliefs that had no grounding in fact whatsoever.

Why do we assume cosmic beings are above this?

Why Do We Assume Cosmic Beings Are Beyond This?

When we receive information from extraterrestrial or interdimensional beings, the natural impulse is to attribute exceptional credibility to them. If a civilization is advanced, we reason, it must know more and know it more precisely.

But this reasoning contains a hidden, unverified assumption: that civilizational advancement equals omniscience.

These are two entirely different things.

Even if a given being or civilization possesses knowledge incomparably greater than ours – its gaps in that knowledge still exist. Moreover: the greater the scope of knowledge, the greater the awareness of what one does not know, and the more space that belief can occupy.

One should never assume anyone’s omniscience. Not even regarding beings who inspire our well-founded sympathy and trust.

How Significant Are the Knowledge Gaps of Cosmic Civilizations?

This question is worth asking directly – because the answer is non-obvious.

If a given civilization’s knowledge is, say, ten times greater than ours, then the gaps in that knowledge – filled with belief – carry ten times greater weight for us.

In other words: the more advanced the civilization, the more weighty its convictions sound – and the harder it is for us to question them, because doing so would require knowledge we ourselves don’t possess.

This is exactly the trap. Not deception, not ill will. Just the natural mechanism in which every being presents its convictions with the same certainty it would use to present knowledge.

Can a Cosmic Being Not Know That It’s Only Its Belief?

Yes – and this is the heart of the entire issue.

Belief has this quality: under the right circumstances, it becomes a conviction so naturally acquired that it is never questioned. A being that believes something – if it has never confronted that belief with verifying reality – is subjectively convinced it is speaking about facts.

It is not lying. It is sharing what it considers to be the truth. And that is precisely why this is so difficult to recognize.

At every level of reality there are beings deeply convinced that they possess the most accurate and precise description of the world. That their image of reality is objective. That others – less advanced – should accept it.

This is not a human privilege. It is a feature of rationality as such.

What Does This Mean for Us – Recipients of Cosmic Transmissions?

SituationWhat May Be Happening
A being speaks with absolute certaintyCertainty is not proof – it may express deep belief, not empirical knowledge
A transmission perfectly matches our expectationsThis is a signal for caution – we may be encountering a mirror of our own convictions
A being inspires our sympathy and trustIntention and credibility are different things – one can be sincere and mistaken simultaneously
A transmission comes from a “higher” civilizationAdvancement does not mean omniscience – gaps exist at every level

A healthy approach does not mean distrust. It means distinguishing between trusting the interlocutor’s intentions and automatically accepting the content as objective truth.

How to Keep a Critical Mind Without Closing Off to Contact?

The goal is not to challenge every transmission in a confrontational way. It is worth remembering that if a given piece of information stems from the interlocutor’s belief, the reaction to being questioned may mirror those we know from Earth. Belief is usually defended intensely.

Instead of arguing, it helps to:

  • Ask about the source of knowledge. Is the being transmitting what it knows from direct experience, or is it its interpretation and conviction?
  • Observe patterns. If a transmission always confirms your prior assumptions – that is a reason for reflection, not celebration.
  • Verify over time. Information that doesn’t hold up against other data or the passage of time reveals much about its own nature.
  • Distinguish intention from knowledge. A being can be benevolent, advanced, and sincere – and simultaneously convey a subjective image of reality.

What Does Cosmic Belief Tell Us About the Being Itself?

There is one more perspective, rarely considered in discussions about extraterrestrial transmissions.

Belief – whether human or cosmic – is a psychological portrait of the one who holds it. It speaks of desires, fears, and how a given being organizes its inner world in the face of uncertainty.

When a cosmic interlocutor describes the history of the universe, the role of humanity, or the fate of civilizations with absolute certainty – that is not just information. It is a window into what that being needs in order for the world to make sense.

Instead of asking only: is this true? – it is worth asking: why does this being believe this? What does this belief satisfy? What does it organize? Where does it lead?

This perspective allows for contact that is far richer and more conscious – and paradoxically deeper – than automatically accepting transmissions as revelations.

Knowing that everyone – humans and cosmic beings alike – believes in something does not close us off to contact. It opens it anew, with fuller awareness.

FAQ

Can transmissions from extraterrestrial beings be false even if the being is sincere? Yes. Sincerity and objective truth are two different things. A being can be entirely sincere in transmitting what it believes – and that conviction may not reflect the objective state of affairs. The goodwill of the sender does not guarantee the factual accuracy of the content.

Does every advanced cosmic civilization have its own beliefs? From an epistemic standpoint – yes. Omniscience is a state that cannot be attributed to any finite being. Wherever knowledge is incomplete and desires and preferences exist regarding one’s image of reality – belief appears. This applies to every rational being, regardless of advancement.

How do you tell whether a cosmic transmission is knowledge or belief? It helps to ask directly about the source: does the being know something from direct empirical experience, or is it its interpretation? Transmissions that sound absolute, allow no other perspectives, and perfectly match our own expectations – more often express belief than knowledge.

Won’t healthy skepticism about transmissions close me off to contact? No – quite the opposite. Critical thinking does not block contact; it deepens it. Beings operating from knowledge rather than belief alone will not require blind trust. Epistemic distance transforms a monologue into a dialogue.

Why is it worth understanding the beliefs of cosmic interlocutors? Because belief is a psychological portrait of the being that holds it. Understanding what and why a given interlocutor – cosmic or earthly – believes gives us access to a deeper layer of contact and allows us to distinguish what is objective information from what is an expression of the interlocutor’s inner world.
