Many people hearing about extrasensory perception for the first time ask: “OK, but if this actually works, why isn’t it talked about? Why don’t the military or intelligence agencies use it?” Well – they do. At least the intelligence services of the world’s major powers have been using extrasensory perception for a very long time.
The History of Remote Viewing
The Cold War created an arms race of a very particular kind. When US intelligence discovered that the Soviet Union had a parapsychic spy program, the reaction was immediate: “If the Russians have psychic spies, we cannot fall behind them in this field!” The decision was made to launch a military research program and begin training PSI spies – PSI from the Greek letter Ψ (psi). In psychology Ψ denotes the psyche; in parapsychology it refers to all paranormal phenomena.

The Two Pillars of Remote Viewing
1. Blind targets. The perceiving person does not know the target being researched. They receive only a target cue – typically a random numerical identifier – and must perceive and describe the actual target using extrasensory perception alone. This eliminates pre-formed opinions, expectations, and the activation of imagination based on prior knowledge. When we don’t know what we’re looking at, our mind has nothing to latch onto – and that opens space for genuine perception.
2. Division of roles. There is a clear division between the viewer – who uses extrasensory perception and receives only the target cue – and the monitor, who runs the session. This division was born from an important discovery: one of the biggest obstacles to effective extrasensory perception is the activation of analytical thinking during the act of perceiving.
