This article is for you if:

  • You want to understand how the subconscious actually works
  • You’ve been struggling to work with your subconscious effectively
  • You want to learn how to program your subconscious in a way that actually gets results

The subconscious is like a supercomputer managing an enormous number of programs – in both body and mind. From birth, throughout our entire lives, it absorbs countless experiences, patterns, and automatic responses.

At some point, the need arises to work with the subconscious in order to change the programs and patterns that no longer serve us.

The relationship between the subconscious and conscious mind resembles an iceberg. Consciousness represents just the tip – roughly 5% of all mental activity. The subconscious makes up the vast bulk beneath the surface – about 95% of everything we do and experience.

The subconscious learns through experience and sensory stimuli. This means that to reprogram it, we must also work through experience and sensory stimuli – not just through thought.

The subconscious doesn’t respond to what you merely think. It thinks in terms of what feels real and beneficial, and it defends patterns it believes protect you – regardless of whether they actually do.

A widespread but mistaken belief holds that to influence your subconscious, you simply need to repeat something in your mind often enough, or visualize it vividly enough.

Okay, but affirmations do work, don’t they? Yes – to a limited extent. Mentally repeating a wish, a visualization, or an inner dialogue activates only a tiny fraction of the psyche. For the most part, the subconscious treats your internal monologue the same way you treat background noise – it filters it out.

Low self-esteem and chronic self-criticism aren’t fixed by affirmations alone – because those patterns were built through real experiences, emotional reactions, and countless moments of feeling inadequate, not through a single positive thought.

In short, internal dialogue is widely overestimated as a tool for influencing the subconscious. The subconscious learned long ago to filter it out.

So how do you actually reach the subconscious? How do you issue commands and requests that it will genuinely respond to?

The key is communication through physical experience and sensory stimuli.

The subconscious may ignore internal dialogue, but it takes every signal coming from your body absolutely seriously. When your body does something – it’s real. The subconscious doesn’t question it.

Few people realize that beyond the programming that happens through ordinary life experience, we can also deliberately reprogram the subconscious through rituals and intentional physical actions. Humanity has used this principle for millennia – in religious ceremonies, healing rituals, and spiritual practices that engage all the senses and all levels of being.

There is, however, a simpler approach than inventing custom rituals for each specific purpose.

The pendulum turns out to be a remarkably effective tool for two-way communication with the subconscious mind.

To learn to communicate effectively with your subconscious through the pendulum – and to master both the art of asking and the art of receiving answers from your own inner wisdom – I recommend our online course: “Online Pendulum Course – Solid Foundations and Practice.”
